KUALA LUMPUR: The country's top cop has instructed the Bukit Aman CID to investigate any threats against Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.

The threat against Tengku Maimun was detected on various social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook since Thursday night (Aug 18).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said it was a serious matter and an investigation on such threats is being carried out despite the lack of police reports lodged on the matter.

"I've instructed the Bukit Aman CID to start the investigation and to scrutinise every form of threat towards the Chief Justice.

"The investigation also involves the CID's Special Investigation Unit," he said when contacted on Friday (Aug 19).

The IGP said the police will not tolerate any elements that might jeopardise security and public order.

Many social media posts were detected calling for Tengku Maimun to recuse herself from Datuk Seri Najib Razak's final appeal on the RM42mil SRC International Sdn Bhd case, for so-called conflict of interest.

However, a particular Twitter user had even threatened Tengku Maimun while urging her to recuse herself.

Many netizens have called on the police to investigate the threat.

Separately, police had on Thursday (Aug 18) received a police report alleging Tengku Maimun's conflict of interest in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case in connection with her husband's Facebook post in 2018.

The police report was lodged at the Putrajaya police headquarters but was referred to Cheras police.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Zam Halim Jamaluddin confirmed receiving the report and police were investigating the matter.
